Game Recap: May 29, 2013 – Detroit Tigers @ Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates bullpen, affectionately known as ‘The Shark Tank’, continued their phenomenal season against the Detroit Tigers on May 29, helping the Pirates defeat the Tigers 5-3 on Wednesday night.

A.J. Burnett started on the mound for Pittsburgh and it was clear after the first inning that he didn’t have his best stuff against a potent Detroit lineup.  However, like all number one starters need to do for their teams from time to time, he labored through six innings for the Pirates and kept them in the game by only surrendering 3 runs. Pirates Minor League Affiliates Logos 2013Monday, May 20, 2013: Altoona @ Reading (AA) – Chase d’Arnaud was back in action for his second game of the year, but logged his second straight hitless game.  Adalberto Santos, however, broke a mini-slump by going 2-4 with a home run.  Stolmy Pimentel has come back down to earth over his last few starts.  Pimentel was able to go 7 innings, but surrendered 5 earned runs.  He ERA has risen to 3.35 on the year. Starling Marte was an up-and-coming star in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ farm system and has been nothing short of that in 2013.

A lot of people have been asking me whether or not I think Starling Marte will be able to keep hitting at the rate which he’s started off the 2013 season.  My simple answer to this very loaded is question is no.
